6. What is the proper way to load a D shackle?

The screw pin has a standard or fine thread. For secure use:

Hand-tighten the pin fully.

For critical or vibrating applications, it is common practice to "finger-tighten plus a quarter turn" using a tool. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, as this can gall the threads, especially in stainless steel.

Some users apply a light thread-locking compound for long-term applications in high-vibration environments.

Always visually check that the pin is fully seated and the collar is flush with the shackle ears.
